France v Costa Rica U20 World Cup

The FIFA match report is here : http://fr.fifa.com/u20womensworldcup/matches/round=267990/match=300251243/index.html#lineups#nosticky

Gilles Eyquem had chosen the following starting 11 in a 4-2-3-1 system :

Durand, Perisset Tounkara M’Bock Bathy Gorce, Diallo Toletti, Diani Lavogez Robert, Sarr

Couple of surprises for me in the starting line-up : Perisset rather than Gagnet and Gorce rather than Dafeur who has been capped at senior level already but was a bit short of fitness after being sidelined from club football for the last few months in the season.

What we saw during the game was more of 4-0-6 system with all the midfield attacking and leaving a big gap where Costa Rica should have hit us on the break. Fortunately for us their forwards got caught offside 8 times overall.

Statistics give us 63% of ball possession 29 shots with 15off targets for a 5 goals return. Not too shabby although had the players been a bit more clinical double figures could have been reached. Bermudez in goal had a very good game as well and should get credit for her numerous saves.

First goal was a very bizzare penalty for a “foul” on Robert from the goalkeeper. Bermudez was penalised for barging into Robert as the winger lobbed the goalie and in the follow through tghey came into contact. The ball hit the crossbar and in play when the referee blew for a penalty.

Second goal was a run on the right concluded by a pull back that Robert finished from close range.

Third goal was an own goal as a corner was headed by M’Bock and going in before the poor Villalobos sliced it into her own net.

Fourth goal was a superb one touch triangle move finished by Lavogez

Fifth goal was a deserved goal by Sarr who had managed to miss all her previous chances.

Costa Rica scored by Herrera very late in the game on the break and the defense and goalie unfortunately did not manage to keep the ball out of the net. Very disappointing outcome not to be able to keep a clean sheet.

Claire Lavogez playing in the 10 position was replaced by Clarisse le Bihan 59’

Aminata Diallo playing in the 6 position was replaced by Margaux Bueno 60’

Faustine Robert playing in the 11 position was replaced by Fanny Hoarau 68’

5-1 is a good scoreline to start the competition, there are loads of thing to work on and improve defensively and offensively but we cannot really complain much about the attacking quality on display.  here is what i though about the individual performances

Durand : Correct performance, saved a few, couple of handling questions and conceded a goal

Perisset : Correct on the right wing

Tounkara : Average, passing went ashtray a few times

M’Bock Bathy : very good and solid

Gorce : Correct, got caught a few times on her wing

Diallo : Good performance in the 6 role

Toletti : Very good creativity and vision, precious player in transition

Diani : Good display on the right wing

Lavogez : very good 60 minutes in the playmaker role

Robert : Good performance on the elft wing, creating space offering options and scoring

Sarr :  Good performance  and scored a goal, could have scored more though

Le Bihan : A very intelligent player that integrated well in the attacking system

Bueno : Solid and serious in her position, even deputised at right back while Perisset was injured

Hoarau : Did not see much of the ball on her wing, couple of shots and crosses
