Arsenal Ladies reserves v London Bees reserves

A deserved win for the Bees in difficult weather. A game of 2 halves with both side getting a clear wind advantage and Bees managing to draw 1-1 against the wind and win 1-0 the first half with the wind. Bees had a better use of the ball against the wind and therefore were rightly winners. Arsenal clearly did not manage a good quality final ball overall.

Straight from the kick-off, I did wonder why some players were played out of position. Fran at center back, Meg in midfield although she has been playing there regularly they could play her at center back and Asia up front. Those 3 girls did a good job but I would have preferred them to play where they are used to. Especially as the midfield 3 was regularly out of position and unbalance. For some reasons it did work at all with Bianca and Christie with a similar profile.

One of the reason behind that defeat for the Arsenal girls was an off day for one of the player. It happens to all of us and they could/should have subbed her with many options avaible. Youngsters Chloe and Evie came from the bench to add to all the U17 girls who have been promoted to the reserves in the last month.

All the players that left during the season 5 or 6 resulted in the team having to settle with a young squad as the best reserves player are also 1st team member and therefore did not appear yesterday.

Carla’s unfortunate injury did not help as she was the main attacking threat and scored the goal, to end up injured in her celebration.

A good lesson in term of development for the girls and they need to do better against Millwall on Sunday in order to keep their title challenge on track.

Credit to the London Bees for playing a good game and getting the 3 points.
