Arsenal Reserves v Chelsea Reserves

It was a very good performance for the young Arsenal girls today. They were reinforced by 2 senior players in Emma Byrne and Emma Mitchell and their experience was priceless in term of communication and guidance for the young heads. Chelsea also had a senior player in Swedish center back Emma Willelhmson and also Clare Rafferty who is coming back from an ACL injury who played the whole 2nd half. Chelsea also had 2 ex Arsenal youngsters that left last summer in Anne Meiwald at center back and Rebecca Bull in goal. Rebecca had a good game and made a lot of quality saves and her kicking was consistent and strong as well.

The starting 11 was Byrne, Robe Sampson Bartrip Mitchell, Ryan Steele Williamson, Humphrey Weir and Gaylor. Subs were Fatuga, Oliver and Harbour-Brown. All the subs came on in the second half.

Goalscorers were Gaylor, Humphrey who had a first half hat-trick. Chelsea scored a superb goal by their number 9 from 25 yards that flew over Byrne.
Williamson and Bartrip added to the tally in the second half.

The Arsenal midfield 3 found a lot of space from their incisive passing behind Chelsea’s defence, especially the left back who had a difficult half against Humphrey as she was caught many times. I hadn’t seen so many through ball reach their target so often in a long time.

The Arsenal girls went behind Chelsea’s defence very often in the first thanks to the passing vision and quality in the realisation and lack of pressure on the ball at times.

So overall a good game for the Arsenal reserves with many players shining and offering performances that need to be repeated with consistency in order to be able to make the step to the first team.
