Liverpool v Arsenal preview

The 1st FA C up semi-final will be played on Friday evening  at Anfield between Liverpool and Arsenal

This is the 2nd big test after the Merseyside derby for the improved and new-look Liverpool team. At the same stage last year Matt Beard, Sarah Quantrill and Gemma Bonner defeated Arsenal 2-0 with a stunning Chelsea win, this was mainly due to Julie’s exceptional performance in goal. The Arsenal team will be on the rebound after the double defeat in the Champions League and also wanting to get the FA Cup “back where it belongs” ie in the Emirates Stadium trophy cabinet.

The line-ups are now more or less settled so it should look like this if there are no new injuries

Quantrill, Easton or Bronze Bonner Engen Schroeder,Omardsdottir Williams Da Costa, Rolser Dowie Fors

Byrne, Scott Grant Flaherty Fahey, Houhgton Nobbs Little, Davison White or Beattie Yankey

Kelly Smith is still injured and has been missed especially in those Champions League games. Lucy Bronze should be in contention for the right back spot as she should be clear of any injury for the first time in a while

The midfield battle will be key as usual as Little and Nobbs run the show for Arsenal and Katrin alongside Williams will have a tough job making sure they are not as efficient as possible. Dowie against the Arsenal defence will be very interesting as she has always been difficult to handle in her previous games with Everton, her strength is a huge asset. She will certainly look to win headers and hold the ball to bring players into the game especially Da Costa Rolser and Fors. Those 3 players are an unknown quantity for the Arsenal defense.

The Arsenal front 3 Davison, White and Yankey will certainly give a good test to the Liverpool back 4.We will certainly see a fair bit of attacks going down the Arsenal right wing where Davison will take on Schroeder.

The pitch will be perfect to play some good attacking football so expect a lot of chances and goals on the day.
